Equip everyday colleagues to support coaching – without turning them into full coaches

Give Your People Everyday Supporters – Not Just Occasional Coaching Sessions

A short, practical programme that trains trusted colleagues to act as Coaching Support Champions – encouraging, listening and keeping momentum between formal coaching conversations.

The Gap: Coaching Sessions Are Powerful – But What Happens Between Them?

You may already be:

  • Investing in professional coaching for key people
  • Training managers through Manager-as-Coach or Internal Coach Excellence
  • Running leadership or talent programmes with coaching elements

But there’s a common missing piece:

Who supports people between coaching sessions – in the corridor, on Teams, over coffee?

Most organisations rely on chance:

  • Some people have a great colleague who listens and encourages
  • Others feel isolated, stuck, or lose momentum after the initial enthusiasm

The result?
Coaching impact is patchy, progress slows, and behaviour change doesn’t stick.

Introducing the Coaching Support Champion Programme

This short, accessible programme trains selected colleagues to become Coaching Support Champions – everyday allies who:

  • Listen without judgement
  • Ask simple, powerful questions
  • Help people stay focused on their goals
  • Encourage small steps and celebrate progress
  • Know when to signpost back to a manager, coach or HR

They are not full coaches.
They are supporters – the “coaching first aiders” in your organisation.

Who Is This For?

Ideal participants include:

  • Trusted, positive colleagues at any level, not just managers
  • Early-stage or aspiring managers who want to support others
  • HR / L&D team members who regularly talk to staff informally
  • People already seen as “good listeners” who want a bit more structure

Typical sponsors are:

  • HR Directors / HR Managers
  • L&D / Talent Managers
  • Leaders running coaching or leadership programmes who want more support around them

What Coaching Support Champions Will Be Able to Do

By the end of the programme, Champions will be able to:

  • Hold 10–20 minute support conversations that are structured but natural
  • Use a small set of safe, effective questions to help colleagues think things through
  • Help colleagues clarify and commit to simple next steps between formal coaching sessions
  • Encourage and normalise talking about goals, challenges and progress
  • Recognise when something is beyond their remit and signpost appropriately

They will not be expected to:

  • Run full coaching programmes
  • Handle serious performance or mental health issues
  • Replace professional coaches or manager-as-coach conversations

Programme at a Glance

  • Duration: 4–6 weeks
  • Total time: ~8–10 hours
